HSH 100: How I’d Make $10k From Scratch
For the 100th episode of this podcast, I thought I’d do something special. I wanted to tell you the exact steps I would take to get to my first 5-figure launch, if I had to start over – from scratch!
Take a screenshot on your device of you listening to this podcast, and add it to your Instagram Stories while tagging me, @heartsoulhustle. Tell me what you’re loving about this episode!
First, I set a few “rules” for this episode. I will give you what I’d do to achieve a 5-figure launch in 90 days, because I believe this timeframe is possible. I also wanted to assume that I’m starting with a bit of money, $1,000, to get this business off the ground.
Here are the steps, in order of what I would do:
1.Sign up for an email autoresponder
CovertKit is one of the best solutions out there to do this, and it only costs $30/month to get started.
2. Create a freebie
I would create a freebie related to my niche, most likely around Facebook ads or building an email list. To design it I would use Canva, which is a free tool, and I would also sign up for Leadpages and connect it to ConvertKit.
At this point, I wouldn’t go crazy with follow-up emails. I just want to use these tools to start building my email list.
3. Run Facebook ads
I’d start running ads to my new lead page for 2-3 weeks. My goal would be to build my list to the first 100 people, and I would budget about $400 to do this.
4. Email my list and ask what they are struggling with
Next I would survey my list and pay close attention to their answers. I would then start formulating some kind of online course around what the responses were. It would be something where I could package up my knowledge and sell it to this new audience.
I wouldn’t need full course software yet, and I would recommend doing an email-based course at this stage, where people could sign up at a lower cost. They’ll get access to all the information via email, and it could be something like a 6-week bootcamp with weekly emails and videos. My pricepoint would be $47, with the goal to get 10 students enrolled and make $470.
5. Start a weekly podcast or newsletter
With a list of people now paying attention to me, I don’t want to neglect them, so my goal here is to start a conversation with these people (and not necessarily build a massive audience). Note that I’d still be running Facebook ads my freebies!
6. Start to build out a webinar
With the webinar I would be increasing my original beta price of $47 to $97, and I should be able to get 25 new students in with my budget of $500 in ads. This would generate about $2,500 in sales with my email list now at 250-300 people.
7. Set up basic email funnel
Here I’m looking to just break even on my ad spend basically, but it will allow me to continue to run Facebook ads and grow my list.
8. Use Facebook ads and organic marketing
Here I would grow my list even bigger with advertising and strategic posting on social media platforms.
9. Do a formal 5-day challenge
This challenge would be promoted to my email list, and I would give myself a $2,000 ad budget to do it. My goal would be to get 1,000 people into the challenge, and I’d be increasing the price of my course to $197.
I would put it inside a platform like Kajabi, Teachable or Thinkific, and it would be a combination of formal video and PDF resources.
10. Hire a designer and virtual assistant
By pre-selling my course, I’d be able to hire these professionals to help me not only design the course, but help with customer service and managing my Facebook community in the case of the VA.
There you have it – the steps I would take to get to my first $10k launch if I were starting over today! Something that I wanted you to take from this episode is that it really doesn’t have to be complicated, you can keep it simple and still have a very successful first launch in 90 days.
